I used Knit Picks Brava Sport yarn for this pattern and it worked up beautifully! Brava Sport is one of my favorite yarns to work with because it is soft, sturdy, and very affordable!
I used the colorways Freesia, Lady Slipper, Seraphim, and Blush for my chevron crochet blanket.

Yes! It’s not ideal as your absolute first project, but if you’re an adventurous beginner, you’ll do great. After the setup row, it’s just an easy one-row repeat with simple increases and decreases for the chevron shape.

What is the best yarn for this baby blanket pattern?
I used I Knit Picks Brava Sport (a sport-weight acrylic) for my sample. Sport weight is perfect here. It gives you a lighter fabric with nice drape while still feeling warm and cozy. Plus, acrylic is super practical. Most of it can be machine washed and dried, which busy parents will love.
Want to use something from your stash instead? No problem! Just grab another sport-weight (#2) yarn. Keep in mind it might work up a little differently, so check your gauge. You can find my best tips for substituting yarn here.
Can I make this zigzag crochet baby blanket a different size?
Absolutely! To change the width, just chain any multiple of 16 + 2 until it’s as wide as you want. Want it longer? Simply keep adding rows. It’s super easy to customize.
